Colored Canyons used to compete with Pyramids… now rarely visited

Sinai colored canyons, with mountains’ waterfalls making lakes and fountains, are now rarely visited by safaris, out of fear of security disorder.
Nuweiba colored canyons are the most beautiful canyons worldwide, representing an excellent tourist destination, according to Ehab Farid, Expert of Environmental Tourism and Safari in Dahab.
“Sinai canyons used to generate more income than Pyramids, mounting to US$ 40mn on a yearly basis in favor of safari companies and Bedouins,” Ehab said.
Ehab pointed out that colored canyons resulted from oxidation and rapid erosion, emphasizing that each color refers to a geological age; the darker the older. Yellow refers to the latest canyons. Some canyons are unique as tourists won’t find similar ones in any other country.
Gebriel Foteih, Bedouin in Nuweiba, discouraged the Tourism Ministry’s ignorance as it pays no attention to the safari and the best colored canyons worldwide.
“Safari and colored canyons are Bedouins’ capital,” Foteih said.
